Self-Love: 3 Ways To Manage Difficult Emotions

Self-Love: 3 Ways To Manage Difficult Emotions

⭐ Self-Awareness
Self-Awareness is a pivotal in how we deal with our emotions. It allows the perspective from the lens of being open to the journey of wholeness. For example, when we are able to step away from our racing mind, looping thoughts, a closed mindset scenario, to a growth expansive mindset. Our perspective shifts into viewing a situation that has triggered us or a challenging situation, into “appreciation” for seeing what happened as an opportunity to stretch and grow and do things differently.

⭐ Compassion & Kindness, Heart
Our emotions need processing through various stages, from when they are super charged, to gently dissipate and neutralise into a balance state. We must connect to our body and heart to quieten the mind – so there’s space to offer compassion and loving kindness and heart. Mindfulness Teacher, Tara Brach, teaches a method called RAIN, It’s a wonderful tool because it offers an opportunity to ‘recognise’ the emotion, ‘acknowlege’ the emotion, ‘inquire’, ask questions to find out what is underneath the emotion and lastly ‘notice’ what’s there and allow. When we give ourselves permission to drop into our hearts whilst practicing this technique – our emotions become our alleys to rise & flourish,

⭐ Reflection
A key point is that ‘reflection practice’ is a portal to understanding your emotions deeply. The aim is not to push emotions away or get rid of them, by making yourself busy, consuming alcohol, shopping etc, as a way to avoid painful feelings. Reflection, instead enables the space for openness, to recognise that emotions are energy and information. Offering messages, nudging you to look deeply, to look at the truth, with ease and clarity. See them as visitors that have entered your realm, your mind, your space. Check in with your body and say “I acknowledge you’re here, is there a message that I need to know?” Then breathe into the emotion. You may want to get a journal and write up the top of the page, ‘Reflections’ and start writing, don’t think about it, whatever comes, allow your intuition to speak freely from pen to paper and be open to anything you hear, listen carefully, you’re journeying towards love.
Keep acknowledging, embracing your emotions with heart and love.

With love, Ant xo
