Career confidence is an area I am passionate about supporting women to reclaim their inner strengths, acknowledge their worth and step into a path that showcases their abilities, authentically and purposefully.
3 tips to manage the imposter syndrome – build your confidence muscle and emerge as your best self.
Identify Your Unique Strengths
Mostly, we don’t notice our strengths and gifts, because they come so naturally to us and we tend to overlook how impactful they are in how we serve out to the world. A technique to get clear on your strengths, is as follows:
Think about a challenging situation that you overcame, write down what the hurdle was and what steps you took to make the change.
Write at least 3 key points that highlight skills used, describe them in one word for each point.
To distill the 3 keys, firstly ask yourself these questions, such as:
How did I approach the situation mentally? what were my emotions like at the time? and what techniques did I use to tackle the situation successfully?
Then keep the 3 key points as your go to ‘Reminder Confidence Mantra’ as a power tool to have with you anytime you need.
Take Things In Small Steps
It’s known that confidence building comes from taking action, even if it’s the tiniest move, such as making a phone call, or applying for that job – your inner critic tells you that you might not be qualified enough. Each step will move you closer to feeling confident towards your goals and aspirations.
To kick start your stepping stone, create a ‘Confidence Building Planner’, add your goals and write down little steps you take each day that brings you closer and closer towards your meaningful path. Generating positive energy and motivation to believe and keep going.
Build Confident Behaviours
Mindset is a key driver to what impacts results – as it comes from the intention you set. If your mindset and behaviours are sabotaging your ability to drive positive change – then it’s time to build new positive behaviours.
One tip on how to build confident behaviours, get a note pad and on the page draw three vertical lines as columns, and across the page draw a horizontal line so you can add a header on each column.
Add, ‘Let Go’ on the far left column, in the middle write Let In, and far right, header is Let Be
Once you have your 3 columns and header, take a few deep breaths and add comments on each column.
Then pick the top 3 new confident behaviours to begin with, and be mindful to practice at least one daily, to instill your new positive habits. Then start bringing these habits into your work, your relationships, socially, in all facets etc, emerging into a healthy confident version of yourself.
Enjoy creating career confidence and life.
