Researcher Dr Brene Brown, says that cultivating an ongoing daily gratitude practice embeds deeper feelings of Joy. I agree, if we pause, and notice what we’ve got rather than what we don’t, our feelings of appreciation for all we have grows deeper and stronger.
Nourishing your body with fresh whole foods, by taking the time to cook a meal, offers an opportunity to give thanks and be grateful for your health and wellbeing. Cooking with love offers joy to yourself, family and friends.
Often we have this idea that journaling means spending a lot of time writing, as though we’re writing an essay. However, that’s not the case. The easiest and quickest way to journal is to write three things you’re grateful for and why. You can do it in the morning or evening or both. Remember there’s no right or wrong way, allow it to feel authentic and meaningful to you.
Remembering to appreciate the people around us that we love and support one another, is a way to become more grateful. An effective technique to practice gratitude is to visualise a circle, you in the middle and the most important people in your life are around the circle. You can do this for a minute or more, it grounds you to come back to what’s really important for your well-being.
Start by taking a few deep long breaths and gently close your eyes and image your loved ones sitting crossed legged in a circle, you may want to imagine the setting in a garden or wherever resonates and then visualise in a circle, peaceful, smiling and feel their energy of love coming to you and feel your energy of love going to them, acknowledging the loving connections you all have.
We know that when we’re in nature it has the ability to calm our thoughts, moving in to a state of stillness. The warm rays of the sun, the sound of the trees when the wind blows, the sounds of birds singing, the movement of ocean waves. These are all natural gifts from the earth available to us, and yet we often forget to take it all in.
Spend time each day connecting with nature as part of your gratitude practice. It’s as simple as stepping out into your backyard or balcony in the morning, sitting, and feel the warm rays of sunshine on your face, embracing every moment. You may want to go to a park, take your shoes off and feel the earth beneath your feet.
